THE FUN

These are not Ordinary School Visits; these are Fabulous Fun Infotainment Days.
Types of presentations include:

FROM IDEA TO REALITY - HOW A BOOK BECOMES A BOOK
is for everyone, everywhere. Slides and original work are displayed, ideas and ways to realize them are shared, sketches are done, and stages of bookmaking shown. A hearty dose of inspiration for budding author/illustrators (45-60 min).

WHERE'S HERMAN? is geared for Pre-K and Kinders. The "hiss"story of Herman, Kim's cartoon snake, is shared through stories and playful art demonstrations (20-30 min).

THE ART OF SCIENCE, THE SCIENCE OF ART...will build a bridge across curriculum. "Form follows function" is a rule in art; it applies to science, too. Comparative anatomy may sound intimating, but an illustrator uses this type of observation to build the visual traits for a character. Kids will discover how the use of science creates believable fantasy (45 min., ages 8 & up; can be a draw-along).

WHAT A CHARACTER! connects vocabulary, writing, even math, into illustration. Ratio, proportion, and geometry...all figure into designing subjects, actions, and composition. Through collaboration, groups combine descriptive terms to create an original character, then apply that list in a poetic tribute (45 min., ages 8 & up; can be a draw-along). Concepts and processes of the above sessions expand with the age group.

Family Nights, In-Service, Professional Development, and Workshops are also offered; please call/ e-mail for information on these as well as what's new:
or just call Kim at the studio: 1-918-298-2980.

But who-all has had themselves a Kim Doner, and what did they think? Well, here's a sample (and no, it's not by her mother):

Are you looking for a high energy, enthusiastic and engaging speaker who can share the writer's craft, the illustrator's style, AND motivate your students to read? One who can communicate effectively with all ages? Would you like a presenter who is passionate about what she does, meets your student's needs with grace and ease, but most importantly, leaves a lasting impression on students, teachers and parents alike? If you answer "YES" to the above, then you need Kim Doner. And how did I know what to ask? I visited 41 schools over 7 weeks with Kim in the fall of 2001! I coordinated her visit for much of Northwest Florida; Kim received rave reviews from every school. The kids are still talking about her and pulling her books off the shelf to read. That folks, is what an author visit is all about!!!
