Today I wanted to talk about Michael Beasley’s strange story, from high school to his drug addiction to his current NBA stint. Let me know in the comments if you think Michael Beasley is making a comeback right now. Alright, let’s get into it.

Michael Beasley was a beast in high school. He was a top 2 player in the high school class of 2007. He was a 6’ 9” power forward and center in high school basketball, but he was an elite shooter with some basic ball handling and good finishing ability. He went to 6 different high schools, going to different highly ranked programs.

People back then knew that he was going to the NBA.
Beasley kept rolling on in college. He went to Kansas State and electrified college basketball. He averaged an absurd 26.2 points per game and 12.4 rebounds per game in his freshman season. After the college season ended, there was a legitimate debate on who to take first in the 2008 NBA Draft, Derrick Rose or Michael Beasley. Michael Beasley ended up going 2nd in the NBA draft to the Miami Heat.

Beasley had a good start to his NBA career. In his rookie season, Beasley averaged about 14 points per game, he became a starter in his second season and averaged about 15 points per game and 6 rebounds per game. He was then traded to the Timberwolves in an effort to free salary cap for LeBron and Bosh to come to the Heat. Beasley then averaged a career high 19.2 points per game including a 42 point game. The season after that was injury riddled and he was traded to the Suns where he regressed, only averaging 10 points per game. From that point on, Beasley bounced around teams, only averaging over 10 points once more, and playing overseas.

But what had made Beasley suddenly just disappear after he was steadily improving? It was his offcourt issues that really made the problem grow. Beasley had a drug addiction. It became apparent in the rookie showcase when Beasley admitted to smoking marijuana and dodging the police once they came to investigate the smell of weed in the hotel he was staying at. Beasley was also a troublemaker in the locker room, just not able to get along with people. He had this arrogant attitude and believed himself to be better than those around him. It’s one thing to be confident in your own abilities but to be cocky is a mistake and causes chemistry issues. The Michael Beasley posted a picture of a boat with something that looked like marijuana in the background. Then he went to a rehab clinic. He was pretty much a joke of the NBA, the typical weed guy.

If you thought that was the end, then you were wrong. 2 years later, Beasley was pulled over for speeding with a bag of marijuana in the car. Although he claimed it was his friend’s who he had just dropped off, it’s pretty hard to believe that Beasley had nothing to do with it, but you can let me know in the comments if Beasley is innocent or not. During a streetball game, he literally manhandled a fan by pushing the fan away with his hand to the face. I mean dang Beasley, just because you’re high doesn’t mean you try to palm that man’s face.

He got pulled over again for speeding with a loaded gun in his car 2 years after that. He was under investigation sexual assault and his last event happened in 2013 when he was arrested for marijuana possession.

All of this happened during his NBA career. That’s why Beasley had become a living weed meme. But after all this, after all these mistakes, Michael Beasley was given another chance. He found his way onto the Knicks this season and has been making the most of it. He hadn’t been getting too much playing time, but with Tim Hardaway Jr. out and Porzingis having a few small injuries, Beasley was put into the rotation. He exploded for 30 against the Rockets in November 25th, A few games later and he scored 21 all while shooting above 50% from the field. Beasley’s true moment came when against Melo and the OKC Thunder, Beasley did a Melo impersonation, scored 30 with a series of jabs and iso mid range shots in a win. He got MVP chants from the crowd. Beasley scored 32 points and 12 rebounds in only 25 minutes against the Celtics in a win.

Recently, he has become injured from what appeared to be taunting the Heat bench. Yet, everyone in New York loves Michael Beasley because he has been a surprise. I’m a Knicks fan and I can definitely say it’s exciting to see players stepping up. I just hope his off court issues don’t come back. But what do you think, Is Beasley the real deal?
